EYV Meetings

Our meetings are a space for young people living and working on Exmoor to come together, share experiences, discuss issues that matter and connect with others facing similar challenges. Whether it’s housing, jobs, childcare, digital access or simply finding your feet on the moor, these meetings provide a safe, welcoming space to have your voice heard.

We hold three types of meetings:
  • Open Meetings – for all young people on Exmoor and their supporters
  • Self-Build Meetings – for those exploring the possibility of building their own home on the moor
  • Trustees Meetings – for EYV trustees focused on governance and decision-making
Most meetings are held at The Rest & Be Thankful Inn, Wheddon Cross. We are very grateful for the ongoing support of Eric, Caroline and the team at The Rest & Be. Meetings are usually held in the evening, outside ‘traditional’ working hours, to accommodate as many young people as possible.

EYV Open Meetings
All young people are welcome. If you’re a little older and wouldn’t necessarily describe yourself as a “young voice,” but are interested in the issues we discuss, you can come along as a supporter. You’re an important part of the community. We do politely ask that you allow the young voices in the room to hold the floor as much as possible, so they can share their experiences freely.

What to expect:
  • Casual atmosphere – less formal work meeting, more relaxed catch-up with purpose
  • Location: The Rest & Be Thankful, Wheddon Cross
  • Start time: Usually 7:30pm (check our website, social media or sign up to our newsletter for upcoming dates)
  • Introductions & updates: Our Chair, Robyn Gummer, will welcome everyone, then we go around for quick intros so no one’s talking to strangers
  • Your voice matters: Share your experiences with life on Exmoor – housing, jobs, childcare, digital connection or anything affecting your life here
  • No pressure to speak: Say as much or as little as you like – everyone’s experiences and ideas are respected
  • After the meeting: Stick around for a drink and a chat. The bar often has live music

Why attend?
  • Be part of a community shaping the future of Exmoor
  • Connect with young people and supporters who understand the challenges of rural life
  • Share your voice and see it lead to real action
  • Get advice and support on housing, self-build, employment, digital access and more

Self-Build Meetings
For young people interested in building their own homes on Exmoor.

Focus areas include:
  • Sharing experiences and lessons from ongoing self-build projects
  • Practical advice and support from EYV experts
  • Learning about potential sites, self-build loans, grants and other resources

Whether you’re just starting to explore self-build or already underway, these meetings provide guidance and a supportive community.

Trustees Meetings

EYV trustees meet separately to handle governance, strategy and decision-making. These meetings ensure EYV runs effectively and stays focused on the needs and priorities of young people on Exmoor.
