EYV has drawn up a Charter of what Exmoor authorities and organisations need to do to help young residents and workers stay on the moor, sustain local life, knowledge, skills and population balance.
A summit was held in 2019 to discuss the proposed charter and potential actions Exmoor authorities and organisations could take in order to adhere to it. We planned a second summit for 2020, but unfortunately it had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
EYV SUMMIT RECALL 2022
On 9th June 2022, Exmoor Young Voices hosted the Summit Recall. We invited representatives from Exmoor National Park Authority, local housing associations, and the main authorities that administer Exmoor, to discuss how to make Exmoor a viable and sustainable place for young people to live and work.
The Summit heard from 4 EYV Members who spoke movingly about their struggles to continue living on the moor, with difficulties in finding appropriate properties to rent and all of the barriers that come with self building.
Representatives from each authority / organisation were asked to consider a list of pledges outlining helpful changes to practice they could make, to halt the flow of young adults away from Exmoor.
Please download the Summit Recall Report (below) for more details on what was discussed, the suggestions made and our next steps. We have also included an appendix for the speeches given by EYV members.
We would love to hear your thoughts on the report, so please feel free to get in touch if you have any comments or suggestions. We also kindly ask that you share the report around - at your Parish / Community meetings, on social media and in your publications. Please email our coordinator Megan [email protected] if you require any additional background information or interviews with EYV.
